Internet Marketing: Think Big, Start Small, Fail Fast & Succeed!

Very few businesses exist in a vacuum, and even start-ups come from somewhere.

Every day, thousands of new companies venture out onto the web. Whether it’s a dorm-room start-up or a new offering from a Fortune 500, each new venture seeks to drive eyeballs, gather clicks, win conversions, and generate sales through internet marketing.

And whether the new venture is a main street business or the latest offering of some multi-national firm, the truth is that there is a wealth of opportunities to build a great online business so long as one does not allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good.

With that in mind, allow me to share my three-step view on how to build a great online business:

Step One:  Think Big
This is pretty self-explanatory.  Few people start out with a mediocre vision or a plan to build a tiny business. Thinking big allows people to free themselves from constraints and get as many great ideas, including internet marketing ideas, on the table.

It also serves to get people excited and engaged in a new idea. That said, there’s a difference between thinking big and pursuing pie in the sky ideas.  That gets us to our next step.

Step Two:  Start Small
I once met a guy who wanted to revolutionize the study aid industry by changing the way that content was created, marketed, consumed, and purchased.  He wasn’t alone in his view, but he was pretty uniquely positioned to get something done.

He’d been in the industry for decades and knew it inside and out.  He wanted to raise a few million dollars to launch a new venture.  He clearly was thinking big.

When I asked him what inspired the idea, he told me his former employer had just discontinued selling a series of very successful Advanced Placement (AP) study books for high school students and reverted copyright to the authors.

After a bit of discussion, I learned that he could buy out those copyrights and sell secure PDF copies of these books on Amazon for a few thousand dollars and test the waters.

That wasn’t big enough for him.  A year later, someone had started even smaller—buying warehouses full of printed materials and liquidating them on eBay, generating a few hundred thousand dollars in sales—while this guy I met was still looking for funding.

There’s no shame in starting small.  No big successful company ever started out that way.

Step Three:  Fail Fast
It’s a cold, hard fact that failure and hardship are the means by which people learn and grow.  Failure teaches us what not to do and hardship allows us to truly value the rewards we earn.  The beauty of starting small is that our failures are then equally small.

The key here is to understand when an experiment has run its course, cut bait and move on.  Small failures are easier to walk away from as there’s often less of an emotional desire to “turn things around” or throw good money after bad.

The goal is not to succeed the first, second, or third time but to identify ten or twenty things that might work and then cycle through them as quickly as possible.  Think of it as A/B split testing for a new venture.

Step Four:  Succeed
This isn’t meant to be funny; very few ventures succeed in their first iteration.  Success is a process of trial and error.  The key to success is longevity, and unless you’ve got a bottomless pit of money (or an unlimited corporate budget), you’ll need to stretch your resources as far as possible.

In my own travels, I’ve had more than my fair share of clients who have turned to me after having dumped enough money to buy a house into a failed digital venture.  In many cases, my clients believed that they had a flawed strategy or a bad idea.  In most cases, it was more about execution.

Sometimes people are shocked to hear that a few free web services and a five page micro site can serve as a pretty good internet marketing starting point for a new venture. Consumer grade web services may not be scalable, but until you know that your venture will succeed, what’s there to scale?

Google Sniper Pulls In Passive Profits, With Zero Traffic Generation...

It’s always refreshing to see new strategies to make money online. However, the majority of the time I’m pretty disappointed with the results.

When I was recommended to buy Google Sniper 2.0, I thought it would be another system that just left me disappointed, but the proof and success stories tipped me to buy it.

A quick Google search for testimonials and by watching the sales video it was clear that this system has worked wonders for other people, and it’s actually generated the most online success stories than any other system/course to date. It was a no-brainer to give it a shot personally.

At the time in my Internet marketing journey, I was pretty lost as to what road to head down. Google Sniper 2.0 really outlays the basics, from picking a niche, choosing keywords, buying a domain to setting up a wordpress website which will generate passive income online.

It’s an extensive guide, but it’s easy to pick up (the walkthrough videos by George help also).

I studied the strategy pretty extensively to start with, and created my first “Sniper” site the next day. I was pretty excited due to the success stories, but still had that common doubt that it would be another blowout.

I made my first bit of commission two weeks later after setting up the site completely. It wasn’t a huge amount but it was something, and that was the trigger to skim through the course once more to see if I could improve my site in anyway.

The site in question started to generate me a tidy amount of commission, and still generates on average $375 a month (on autopilot).

As I’ve been recommended many times before, “if something works duplicate it...” And that’s what I did. I now have about 10 sniper sites, all generating commission each month. Each site differs in the amount of money I’m making, but I can’t squabble as I’m on the hunt for more...

The best thing about this course is alongside earning a nice income each month from this system on autopilot with no traffic generation, it’s also an extensive guide into niche research, finding products to promote and how to set up your own website.

Yes, it may need to be read through a few times, but believe me... It’s worth it.

Affiliate Marketing: Be Careful What You’re Recommending!

I’ll never forget my early days of setting up my first website and branching out into affiliate marketing…. this was in 2007, when most programmes where you could work from home and earn money online on writing sites were US-based – and not open to residents of other countries.

The main reason for this was cross-border payments and Paypal not widely used. Most companies would send a USD check – to residents of the US only.

As I was in the UK, I was letting people know about various websites they could find ways to earn money online – and in one short post I suggested Associated Content.

These posts would contain an affiliate link and I hoped that US readers might sign up and I might end up getting an affiliate payment at some point.

Well, the post hadn’t been on my website more than a couple of weeks before I received the most horrendous, ranting, wild email from some furiously mad UK resident who was incandescent with rage that he’d looked and it was for US residents only. Now,

I’d not said about restrictions, I was simply pointing interested people towards sites they might try/investigate.

It really put the wind up me! I can still remember it to this day …. he was FURIOUS!!! I mean, you have to laugh really, it wasn’t a big deal. No money had changed hands. He’d probably wasted 10 minutes of his life…. and a further 20 minutes to email me… but it did make me scared of reader backlash!

I was reminded of this incident when another writer here on DailyTwoCents said they were considering writing reviews for cash …. and there’s no way I’d do that as the memory of that horrible email haunts me to this day!

Imagine if I’d written a (false) review about some gadget and he’d spent a fortune on it for a special gift! Reviews ….? Not for me!

The Secrets Of The Affiliate Marketing Experts!

Web marketing can be a profitable marketing strategy. The track record of affiliate program use has proven its potential for profits over a number of years.

Given the length of affiliate marketing history and the furious rate of new developments, a substantial body of knowledge exists about it. You might find these tips helpful, no matter if you are a novice or expert affiliate marketer.

Learn how a company tracks orders made off-site before you choose a marketing program. You should ensure that your affiliates have a tracking a method of tracking orders that are not placed online to ensure your commission payments.

TIP! It’s vital that you and your various affiliate marketing partners do not try to take advantage of the visitors with this particular procedure. If nothing else, this will annoy your visitors.

Look for affiliates that can further your business plan not only as partners but also as providers. While you want some diversity in your affiliate network, you also want to connect with companies you truly like and trust. Do some research before choosing which affiliates you will do business with.

Try not to market only extremely popular products. Don’t confuse quality with popularity. Going up against giant competitors, as a small business owner, can be bad for your business. Generating profit can be difficult.

TIP! When venturing into affiliate marketing, it is useful to find and register with affiliates that are able to give you the services and products you want to sell. Joining different programs will provide you with multiple streams of income.

One way to improve you chances of success with affiliate marketing is by looking for a company with a steady stream of products. Work with reputable companies to retain customers and increase profits. Avoid doing business with companies marketing flash-in-the-pan products.

Affiliate Marketing Beginners Should Read This!

If you have had any training in sales, you probably know this tip already. If you have not had any training in sales, you probably do not.

But even highly trained salespeople who are affiliate marketing beginners forget this. I did. So, what is my affiliate marketing tip of the day?

Simply this: Focus on the benefit to the customer, not on the feature of the product. What does this mean practically?

If you are marketing houses, you are marketing shelter from the elements, not wood or bricks.

If you are marketing fences, you are marketing safe kids and dogs or privacy, not white pickets. If you are marketing an investment program, you are marketing future feelings of security, not bigger numbers on a bank statement.

Affiliate marketing beginners, like all sales people, often forget this one simple fact. So with each new article you write, pay close attention to what you say.

Ask yourself, am I describing the features of this product, or am I truly showing the benefits to my readers?

The most important thing is doing this going forward. Don't use this tip or any other as an excuse to edit all your old material without first writing new material.

Remember that content is king. And new content is the king of kings.

If you write new quality content and still have the time to go back over old content, by all means, edit the old content to ensure benefits stand out over features.

But write new content first!

The Role Of Content In Performance Marketing!

February 2011 is perhaps the starting point for any discussion of the current role of content in performance marketing.

Google’s then roll out of the Panda update was the search giant’s first systemic step towards emphasising the value of pure, quality content in terms of its rankings and which penalised what it deemed ‘thin sites’, low on quality and sometimes guilty of ‘black hat’ tactics that attempted to manipulate their way to the top of valuable search queries.

For both advertisers and publishers alike, this was a new dawn and the upshot was that many brands were forced to rethink their approach online, moving content plans to the very core of their online and indeed affiliate strategy.

Whilst the initial rollout saw varying degrees of collateral damage with some unwarranted casualties seeing huge drop-offs in their natural traffic, the update seems to have had the desired effect and forced all digital natives to place a new value on providing content for their audiences that is both relevant and valuable.

This is equally true within the performance marketing channel, and if anything, has arguably added a new legitimacy to an environment which may previously have been seen by some as slightly murky; littered with banner farms, keyword-stuffed review sites and dodgy discount code providers.

Now, to ensure consistent traffic levels, affiliate sites of all persuasions are compelled to think of their audiences rather than their rankings first, and to consider what value they can add to the customer journey.

Though some may always see the repositioning of the search goalposts as a negative, the focus on content by Google has to some extent been a boon to affiliates who are in the perfect position to take advantage of it.

As independent mediators between consumers and brands their notional objectivity and insight is precisely what online users demand during the pre-purchase phase of the customer journey. Content marketing provides the perfect tool for affiliates to exploit this.

It is by no means an easy task, but by producing a consistent stream of relevant, valuable and insightful content on a subject area, affiliates can benefit in various ways. They can develop trust with their audience, engage new traffic niches, foster relationships and generate links and referrals from other authoritative sources.

Content affiliates can also develop their own brand identity and personality, and by doing so encourage the ‘virality’ of the content they share. There is much to be gained, and in a back-to-front kind of way all this can culminate in ever greater performance for both affiliates and the brands they work with.

Invariably the traffic coming their way is more numerous, more qualified and more disposed to converting. The subsequent updates that Google has rolled out since 2011 have sought to refine and extend much of what the original Panda update started.

With an ever more nuanced understanding of what users are searching for online the role of content has changed dramatically and for affiliates and their brand partners it is an essential component of any effective performance marketing relationship.

How To Become A Social Media Affiliate Marketer!

Times are hard, at least that what’s being rammed down our throat, right…?

Times are as hard as you want them to be, it’s your choice, you can either jump on the whining wagon of misery and hardship or be different. ‘Make your own luck’.

Don’t you find that those that spend the best part of their lives moaning about governments, tax’s and gas prices are generally those that are least prepared to bust a gut or work their fingers to the bone. In other words, get off their backside and do something about it.

If you are a perpetual moaner but do try to do something about your situation, then I apologize for my rant. My experiences of these people has more than been justified, several times over, I can assure you. Rant over

A question.. would you buy a gold watch off of someone you had never met?

Chances are, probably not. But. If we were to build a relationship first and you like my watch’s then maybe or probably yes.

Affiliate marketing first and foremost is about making a connection with your audience – engaging with them. You can offer those on your website the greatest offer the internet has ever seen but if you don’t first gain their trust so that they actually listen when you speak, it will all be in vain. They will click off your site at lightning speed.

With this said, your are going to need to network with other like minded people, try making contact with similar bloggers or business owners in your niche and invite them to view your stuff. In return, tell them that you will too spread the word of what they offer.

I say this with some caution. Be sure to like the content they provide and approve of their work ethic. You don’t want to be associated with someone who provides poor content or worse still is going to spam you or your followers with mindless garbage.

When I first set out to build a site, be it a niche or high authority site I never look to monetize it until I know it’s well optimized and climbing the rankings. In fact, I will not monetize it until it’ just approaching page 1 of google. This benefits my site in many ways:-

* It forces me to work hard on providing good content
* It also forces me to not be lazy with my on-site SEO
* It enables me to get a good amount of content uploaded to the site before the traffic turns up.
* This time that passes is time to tweak, make changes, iron out the cracks.

Okay, so your site is now all good you’re ready to go, what next?

When writing your content be sure to include your affiliate links when mentioning a product or service that can help your readers see the same results. I try never to promote a product that I haven’t tried myself.

The exception to this is when someone I trust profusely recommends something that I am yet to try for myself. I always end up buying the product too though as I find promoting just any old garbage to be immoral.

I like many of you in many moments of weakness have been caught up in the bull-shit that unfortunately plagues our industry. I call it, “Shinny Shite”.

Gone slightly off track here – include links in your posts, and include images/banners where you can. Not too much though, remember your stuff needs to engage not disengage.

Social media has changed the way we do Affiliate Marketing forever. It gives you the platform to promote your stuff for free. All you have to do is again provide some value, in return for another subscriber to your blog or like your fanpage.

I see so many ‘newbie’ and surprisingly experienced marketers miss the fundamentals of social media with regards to affiliate marketing.

They try to make the sale. Of course you need to make sales to make any money. But, try selling directly on facebook, twitter or indeed any social platform is a sure fire way to lose what credibility you have with them running in the opposite direction.

Want To Be Successful In Affiliate Marketing? Try These Tips!

If you are willing to learn the basics of article marketing, you can improve the profitability of your business. Incorporate this timely advice in this article to sidestep potential pitfalls.

It is important that neither you nor your affiliate marketing partners take advantage of this process. Most consumers are put off by sellers that abuse their cookies. At worst, this can break tracking chains, spread viruses, and cause numerous other problems for your visitors.

Many affiliate marketers try too hard to attain “super” affiliate status. They try to juggle too many balls and end up dropping them all. Many people try to achieve “maximum results” without realizing that they don’t exist. It is important to take time and look for the best method that will apply to you.

Create links to a few carefully selected products only. You may have to take some time to learn how to best arrange the affiliate links on your site, but once you find a successful formula, you will see the profits coming in more regularly.

Select affiliates with your purpose and target audience in mind. This will build traffic to your site, but more than that it will send a message that you understand the wants and needs of your target audience.

Paid advertising services, such as Google Ads, provide an excellent means for you to turn a larger profit from your affiliate programs. They supply keyword friendly ads to increase sales on your site. It is a targeted approach for online publishers, with revenues generated by showing relevant ads that are more likely to attract buyers.

You can market your online business better through affiliate marketing. Generally, more traffic is generated by affiliate programs than many other advertising methods. If you are picking affiliates, keep a few things in mind, including your commission, how popular the site is, and how easy it is to use.

Affiliate marketing helps many people make extra income, but it’s important to know how to maximize it in order to make big money. You want your site or blog to get as high a search engine ranking as possible. Accomplishing this will allow you to obtain more links and generate more sales.

So as you can see, affiliate marketing is not as complicated as it may appear. The effort invested in research or networking will pay off in the long run. You should have better affiliate marketing results when using the tips above.

How To Create An Internet Marketing Strategy!

If you want to make more money with your affiliate marketing, write reviews for the products you promote. Make sure you mention any flaws so that you do not lose your credibility or make your readers think that you will do anything to make the sale, even lying about the product.

When selecting an affiliate marketing program, ask if cookies are used to track sales and link customers back to the original referrer. Cookie tracking helps to track individual visitors that follow a link from you to the affiliate site. If they return to the affiliate site again at a later time to make purchases, you can still receive a commission.

In today’s troubling economic times many people are turning to affiliate marketing as a way to make good money. The key to becoming successful as an affiliate marketer is education. You must implement proven and effective strategies if you expect to make money with affiliate marketing. This article contains a number of great affiliate marketing tips.

Check with your affiliate programs to see if you can receive test products to review. Some companies don’t allow this but there are many that do. The less money you have to put upfront the better. If they don’t offer test products, then you may want to look elsewhere for a company to work with.

Check the company’s reputation. Working with a company who has a bad reputation is pretty obviously a bad idea, but dig a little deeper to see how their underlying reputation looks. They may have undisclosed issues, like a lawsuit that hasn’t made the news yet. You don’t want to affiliate yourself with a company that will, in the end, damage your reputation as well.

Do not forget that affiliate marketing expands further than the Internet. You do not have to convert someone online. You may find a product that allows you to pitch by phone or by snail mail. This is a great way to increase your profits and profile as an affiliate. Just be sure that you’re ready to handle the work.

Understand that being an affiliate is going to at least require that you have a site of some sorts. Article marketing just isn’t enough to sustain a successful business. So even if you’re only opting for a free blog, you need a permanent presence to act as a home when attempting to drive people to an affiliate’s site.

If you want to increase the money you make with affiliate marketing, consider adding videos to your website. As an affiliate marketer, your number one goal is to increase traffic to your website. Having videos on your website is a great way to do this. Google will rank your site higher if it contains both video and text.

As was stated in the beginning of this article, affiliate marketing is a proven way to make money in today’s difficult economic times. Although making big profits as an affiliate marketer is not easy, if you know the right strategies to utilize, it is not as difficult as you may think. Apply the advice from this article and you will be well on your way to succeeding as an affiliate marketer.

Are You Thoroughly Disgusted with Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a tough business. Once that you realize that it is:

1. Tough, and
2. A business, it helps.

If you are going to promote a product as an affiliate, just putting your affiliate link on your website is NOT going to do it. Here are some criteria:

1. Know your product inside and out.
2. Use your product.
3. Be excited about your product.
4. Trust your product.
5. Testify of the usefulness (to you) of your product.
6. Keep posting about your product until you have written about it about 10 times, pointing out various benefits and twist.
7. Reporting on the use of your product by you and others (testimonies).
8. Be able to suggest backup products to your buyers. (So you may want to keep track of your buyers.)
9. Promote related products.
10. Use keyword and SEO techniques to promote your products including social marketing.

I also suggest that you contact your affiliate manager. He or she will know what is going on, what works, who is making the big bucks, etc.

He or she will guide you to markets in and out of the country. Ask your affiliate manager about PPC marketing. PPC is a good way to check out your keywords too.

One other thing...

Make sure your domain reflects your market. You may want to create a new domain for your product from the start. It can pay off.

Think about it! You are in business to make money, not for your health.

Top Reasons You Should Hire an Affiliate Marketing Coach!

The affiliate marketing industry is an unusual one. On the one hand, it is incredibly easy to get started with affiliate marketing – all you need is a reasonably modern computer or tablet PC and an Internet connection.

On the other hand, the vast majority of people who try to start an affiliate marketing business fail within the first year. The low barrier to entry is both a blessing and a curse.

If you want to succeed at affiliate marketing, then you will need to have a sound business plan and a clear strategy.

If you understand the world of SEO and marketing then you have an advantage over a lot of people who try to get started in the industry, but if you do not then you could find yourself floundering quite quickly.

The best way to get past the stage where you “don’t know what you don’t know” is to hire an affiliate marketing coach.

What Can an Affiliate Marketing Coach Do For You?
An affiliate marketing coach is a lot like a sports coach. They offer both short and long term practical guidance as well as management in a more philosophical sense too. A good coach will have a proven, effective blueprint for affiliate marketing.

This blueprint will include everything that you need to get started – from how to structure your website to which SEO techniques to use and what approach to take with your mailing list.

They won’t go so far as to write your sales copy for you, but they will show you how other people have succeeded and help you as you try to emulate that success by looking at what works and adding your own unique twist to it.

The biggest benefit offered by an affiliate marketing coach, however, is accountability. During those early stages of building your business it is easy to feel demoralized. Traffic peaks and tails off quickly, you get a couple of sales one day then nothing for a week – this is normal, but it can be stressful to deal with.

A good affiliate marketing coach will be on hand to act as a sounding board when you need them, and will also call you to check up on your progress periodically. It’s easy to lie to yourself, but it is much harder to let down a third party that is invested in your success.

No matter how motivated you are, there will be occasions when that motivation wanes, and you will be glad to have someone to push you on those days.

A Fresh Perspective:
Another thing that a qualified and experienced coach offers is a fresh perspective. If your pages aren’t converting as well as you like, or your engagement figures are low no matter what you post, then you may find that having someone else take a look at your efforts may be beneficial.

When you spend a lot of time working on a website, mailing list, sales page or social media profile it is only natural to become blind to obvious flaws and problems.

You can give yourself a fresh perspective simply by taking a break for a day or two, but having someone knowledgeable and experienced available to take a look at your work for you is always beneficial.

Finding an Affiliate Marketing Coach:
There are a lot of experienced affiliate marketing coaches out there. Some coaches specialize in a specific niche, while others offer more general advice that caters to almost all niches.

Some coaches run large group courses, while others take on a handful of people to mentor at any one time, and limit the number of people they work with so that they can give each person a lot of attention.

Talk to a few coaches and try to find one that suits your personality and your working style. The mentor-student relationship is a complex one and you need to find a coach that you feel comfortable and confident in working with.

Having a good coach will greatly increase your chances of succeeding in the world of affiliate marketing. If you can start to turn a profit in your first year, then the chances of building a sustainable long-term business increase dramatically.

Earn More Today With This Great Affiliate Marketing Advice!

Because of the low start-up costs and apparent simplicity of management, many webmasters are inclined to employ affiliate promotion systems.

Affiliate promotion will not require handling, shipping, as well as interaction in many cases. Having said that, you have to dedicate considerable time as well as in your marketing plan before you’ll see any sort of profit, let alone an income that alone will sustain you.

Once you have proven your worth as a partner, try to negotiate a higher commission. For those who have become someone who generates enough sales on a regular basis, then you are a reliable seller they don’t want to lose, and will therefore do anything in their power to keep you in their program.

People do generally unsubscribe eventually, so you have to keep replacing your clients. To draw in new clients, send top quality emails to pique their interest.

Every affiliate website is exclusive. You can find tremendous differences from a to a different one. Some sites make it the pain to locate anything.

This is probably not a great situation, but smart webmasters do not let difficult or hard-to-navigate affiliate sites keep their business from being profitable. This will likely drive business and persuade folks to get things of your stuff simply because it develops trust between you and the customers.

Paid advertising, like Google’s Adsense, are well worth the cost. Purchased advertisements can more easily target potential clients by using their previous keyword searches to drive these to your web site.

Do transactions just with fair and generous affiliate companies. You need to never work with any business that will simply provide you with under 20 % from the sales which you allow for them. A great affiliate company will understand that you need an effective pay so you continue doing business with them.

Affiliate marketing programs vary greatly. They provide different products with differing levels of flexibility.

Your goals should go beyond creating a sustainable income. Ensure you work tirelessly every single day to produce your profits grow. Although being self-disciplined concerning your work may be hard initially, the final results that you will observe is going to be well worth the effort.
